ask. follow. trust.

by Pastor Mark Jordan

“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it.” (James 1:5, MSG)

Have you ever been afraid to ask a question, because you are afraid of looking inept? Remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question! I recall being in school and feeling apprehensive about asking questions, because I didn’t want to give the perception that I didn’t know the answer. Looking back, I know the folly there: you don’t go to school to be told you know everything, but to learn, to grow, and see how to apply it in life. Even the life lessons that come from math problems I’ll never have to do again. Like, ever.

Are you struggling in life’s school of hard knocks? Today’s verse says to ask God when you don’t know what to do. God knows the answer and loves to help. Then, I love how The Message puts it next: God won’t be condescending toward you when you ask for help.

If you have questions and don’t know what to do, ask God for help. He’ll emphatically say there is no such thing as a stupid question! He wants to give you wisdom by not only teaching you lessons, but showing you how to apply it in your daily living. Ask God. Follow God. Trust God. You’ll be glad you did!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for longing to teach me not just what I need to know, but how to apply it in life. I ask for your help in the name of Jesus. Amen.
