“Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6:18-19, MSG)
This week we’re looking at extravagant generosity. The last two days we explored a spiritual EKG, which is about tracking the strength and timing of your heartbeats. Since generosity is at the heart of your spiritual life, I want to take some time today to look at the nature of blessing.
It was Jesus who said it is more blessed to give than receive (Acts 20:35). Giving initiates a cycle of blessing: God gives you blessings so you can bless others; when you bless others, you yourself are blessed; but that’s not all…God is blessed, too!
You are blessed to be a blessing for others, God, and self. Extravagant generosity begins with a willingness to use your blessings in ways that will help others experience God’s love. You might think your blessings are many or mini, but the amount isn’t as important as the spirit in which they are used. So look for ways to be a channel of blessing today…by blessing others, you’ll be blessed, and you’ll find God blessed, too!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for helping me catch a new glimpse into extravagant generosity! I want to be a blessing to you and others, and choose to be generous with all I have. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
