Happy New Year!

by Pastor Mark Jordan

Happy New Year, my friends! I hope 2019 is starting out with a blast for you! Though we are only a handful of hours into the new year, this small beginning can have a major impact for you if you allow it.

This reminds me of a verse that meant a lot to me late last year: “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” (Zechariah 4:10, NLT). I love that!

Since we are just stepping into 2019, the beginning is indeed small. We have more than 364 days ahead to do something meaningful for the Lord. We are called to organize our lives around worship, service, outreach, and fellowship with other believers. Thinking about the New Year upon us, I pray you will look for even the smallest of ways to get started and make a difference.

There is a lot of hope in the knowledge that God delights in seeing the work begin. All too often we fear the final product won’t match our expectations. Just thinking back to years’ past, you know the way you finish a year is very different from how it begins. 2019 will be no different. Don’t let that deter you, though. Get started for the Lord, and don’t worry if the beginning is small…God relishes in seeing you get started.

Happy New Year, and let’s make the most of the opportunities we have before us!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for a clean slate, and a chance to start anew in 2019. Forgive me for the times I despise my small beginnings, and thank you for celebrating with me when I start. I pray that my eyes, ears, and heart may be tuned to you cheering me on in 2019 and beyond. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
