Stay the Course

by Mary Stout
Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.”
John 8:31‭-‬32 MSG
Have you ever thought your faith felt empty and hollow? You go to church, you pray, you serve.  But today you feel empty. Your thoughts keep saying it doesn’t matter.
You listen to the sermon and it feels good to you for the moment. The people around you give you hugs, tell you they love you and you do the same.
And yet,
when you go home the dark clouds gather. The thoughts of unworthiness return.. The end of church begins as the start of the week greets you without mercy. Takes the kids there, pay the bill today, take Aunt Tillie her meds, etc. Everyday seems to be overwhelmingly exhausting. You scarcely have any breathing room for yourself.
You son or daughter are having problems and you are worried. Life happens and we don’t always have the answers. We turn to Jesus
Jesus tells us in these verses we need to stay the course. Continue praying, reading the Word, serving others. Keep walking towards that holiness that only He can provide. As we gather our strength in Him, we begin to recognize ourselves as powerfully equipped each day.
Next time you’re feeling unsure, or life seems to get the best of you remember to stay the course. Hang in there. Turn to the One who has been there. Turn to the one whose truth will set you free.
Prayer: Father thank you for giving us gentle reminders to stay the course. Help us surrender all our cares to you. Keep us in your loving care as we go throughout our day. In Jesus name, Amen
