“I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8, NIV)
What do you desire? Does it line up with God’s desires? God’s will?
Maybe you need to think about what God’s will is. I like how it is listed in 1 Timothy 2:2b-4, “…live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” Breaking it down, God wants all people to be saved and know the truth (REMEMBER: Truth is a person; i,e., Jesus Christ, as stated in John 14:6). You can help God accomplish this in the way you live your life, reflecting God’s character. So as we read this in conjunction with today’s verse, we come down to God’s law.
God’s law is love. Jesus confirmed this in John 13:34 as He said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Living a life of love makes us more like Jesus in godliness and holiness. So as we live like Him, our very lives become the message of God’s will for all to be saved, thanks to the truth. Consider what the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:3, “You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”
I hope and pray that you spend some time in prayerful consideration today about how your life can help lead others to God; it is His will, after all. Live your life in love — godly and holy — and know that the message it conveys can change someone else’s life
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for your love in my life. Help me to see this as a message not just for me to know, but also to share. I pray this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
