“If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve—and do it today…. As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.” (Joshua 24:15, MSG)
I recall when today’s verse became “real” to me. As it set in my heart, mind, and soul, I was convinced I was created for the purpose of worship. The conviction came in the things that I am inclined to worship as opposed to the Lord; things like sports, food, pop culture, etc.
You have a throne in your heart. Who, or what, sits atop it? When God gave the 10 Commandments, He said, among other things, not to have any another gods than Him, not to slip into idolatry, and not to be covetous of things that belong to others. Since God knows the human heart, He knows that we struggle with worshipping things that aren’t worthy of the honor. I also know I do. How about you?
Who, or what, sits atop the throne of your heart? What have you chosen to worship? Is it worth that position of honor in your life? Is it godly? Is it God? As Joshua intimated, you will worship someone or something. Make it worthy of the Lord. Better yet, make it the Lord! If and when you do, your life will never be the same.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. Forgive me the many times I give things the place of honor in my life that should only belong to you. I choose to serve you, knowing it will transform my life. I pray this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
