Pop Quiz

By Doug Markle

Mark 6:7-13 | 7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

Do you know what I hated more than anything when I was in school?  Pop quizzes.  Ugh.   I despised them.  Why?  Because I always waited until the last minute to study for a test.  Instead of learning the material and being ready for whatever the teacher threw at me, I would wait until I had to do the work.  Typical lazy teenager attitude.

Jesus had just taught the disciples about living by faith.  The withered hand…calming the sea…demons recognizing and obeying Him…the woman with the issue of blood…Jarius’ daughter…Jesus not able to do miracles due to the lack of faith of those in Nazareth.   Now comes the first pop quiz.  He sends out the disciples in groups of two without Him going with them.  They have to operate in faith and start to walk the walk.

As we go through life, we will come on quizzes too.  It may be to step out in faith.  It may to hold fast and wait in faith.  It may be to move into something way out of your comfort zone.  Whatever it is, it is to build your faith.  Keep following the prompting of the Holy Spirit and you will see your result.

Prayer: Glorious God, thank you for leading and guiding me even in the times of the pop quizzes. Amen.
