“My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:7, MSG)
I hope you did more than skim today’s verse; if not, go over it again…it is absolutely beautiful and poignant. The Apostle Paul wrote about how God gave Jesus, and what happens when one receives Him; i.e., He becomes the rooted footing for a person’s life. This is the foundation for living — much like what pre-K and kindergarten are for us in today’s culture — with all deference to
Our word, education, is rooted in the Latin, which means, “To bring forth.” The idea is we already have deep within us the capacity for great things, but we need help bringing them out. If you’re honest, though, it isn’t that all of these things are within you, but within the Source to which you need to as the foundation of your life. Like a tree’s root system that brings forth water and nutrients from the soil, education is to bring forth the goodness that is available to us. From the Bible’s point of view,The Source is, of course, the I AM, our God Almighty.
Are you rooting your life in Christ Jesus? He is the source for all you need, now and forever! You can give thanks for Him, and watch it overflow in and from your life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being my source and foundation. Help me to live my life with you as foundation, nourishing and flowing from within me to the many facets of my life. I ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
