Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.
3 John 1:11 NLT

Discernment is defined as the ability to judge well.(in Christian contexts) perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual guidance and understanding.

Each of has the ability to discern good from bad.  As children we learned through experience not to touch a hot stove.we relied on Mom or Dad to guide us as we grew. We learned to trust them until we figured out how to do things.

As we grow in faith, we trust God to show us the difference between good and evil. The ability to discern is greatly enhanced when we practice our spiritual disciplines.

Looking inside and being honest with ourselves we learn those intuitive instincts or gut feelings are God’s way of showing how to discern what is good for us vs what is not.

Through prayer and worship our connection with God grows stronger and our foundation of faith gives us confidence to instinctly know when something is good or evil.

Being open to the present moment and willing to listen to our instincts, our ability to discern what’s good for us or not increases.

The daily devotion is a great example of how God can guide your focus for the day.

Meditating on His word, praying, and listening for His answer through the day are ways our walk with God can give us more confidence in knowing what’s best.

Prayer: Father thank you for the gift of discernment. Help us as we listen to your guidance Lord. Increase our ability to do good and walk gently in the world. We thank you for keeping us safe from evil. In Jesus name Amen
